Email Configuration

rap-X enables Requests and Request Comments to be added by email. In both these cases , the author is determined by searching the User's database for an email address which matches that of the email sender. If no matching address address is found, the email is ignored.

Posting Requests by Email

In order to enable Requests to be posted by email, rap-X must be configured to read from the mailbox to which relevant mail is sent.. This configuration includes specifying how rap-X should process any emails received - i.e. what Category the email should be added to, and what its status and type should be. rap-X can be configured to read from multiple mailboxes.

This functionality can be configured by navigating to "Manage"->"Settings"->"Post by Email".

Adding Comments by Email

When a user adds a comment to a Request in rap-X, other users who are watching that request are notified by email. The email address from which these notification emails are sent is defined as the "Email Notification 'From' Field" found in "Manage"->"Settings"->"System Settings".

By default, nothing happens if the user replies to a notification email. However, rap-X can be configured to read from a mailbox in order to process replies to notification emails, in which case any additional text added to the email will be regarded as a comment to be added to the originating request.

This is configured in a similar way to "Post By Email" functionality. rap-X must be provided with the necessary details to read from the email account defined as the "Email Notification 'From' Field". This can be done from "Manage"->"Settings"-"Comments by Email".

When rap-X reads a message posted to this mailbox, it examines the subject field to identify the request ID number of the parent request.

N.B. It is important that none of the accounts read by rap-X are configured to received email notifications since this could result in an endless loop .
